Sheet metal parts are most commonly made by the stamping process. Depending on the complexity of the sheet metal part, one to many pairs of molds are usually required. Therefore, the concept of stamping needs to be mentioned first.
Stamping is the use of stamping dies mounted on presses (e.g., punch presses) and other equipment, plate, strip, pipe and profile, etc., to apply external forces, so that it produces plastic deformation or separation, so as to obtain the desired shape and size of the sheet metal parts of a molding process.
Stamping can be roughly divided into two categories: blanking and forming.
Blanking, also known as the separation process, is a process in which one part of a blank is separated from another part along a certain contour line.
Forming, also known as deformation process, is a process in which one part of the blank is displaced relative to the other part without rupture.
